What is the right help for me?

Question
Vraag

I’m not doing well. I feel I should seek help, but I don’t know where. I sleep very little at night and have been wanting to cry for months, but there’s no one I feel safe to cry with, so I hold them in. And then the school exams are almost approaching and I just can’t help myself with it. I don’t remember anything anymore. My head is full and I can’t put anything more in it. And then there is the daily quarrel with my parents… being beaten, not being allowed to make my own choices in life. Suicide also occurs to me more than ever, but I know that that is not the right solution either. Deep down I know I need to seek help, but I don’t know what help?

How brave of you to message us! You should be proud that you are taking the first step towards help. I'm so sorry to hear that everything is so overwhelming for you and that you are suffering so much from the hurtful circumstances. I hope I can help you a bit on your way.

Help always seems like a big step until you take it. The first step is to talk to your doctor about your current situation. Your doctor is responsible for your health. Sometimes it can be nice to ask a friend to come along or give you a helping hand. The doctor will eventually help you to get to the right place. You can also register with Sol Psychotherapy to receive short-term support from one of our colleagues.

In the meantime, it is important to take good care of yourself. In particular, staying active is one of the best remedies for these types of complaints. Think about the following:

  • Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. That can be sport, but a round of cycling or walking is also sufficient.
  • Take enough relaxation and do something nice for yourself. Go play a game, meet up with friends, read a book, do something about your hobby. Even if it's only 5 minutes.
  • When we feel bad, we wear a kind of 'black glasses'. This is also known as a negativity bias. As a result, negative things attract our attention. Try challenging yourself by countering this and naming 1-3 things about your day that are positive every day.

If you want to know more about suicidal thoughts or if you start to notice that it is starting to bother you, it is important to contact 113.nl. They are experts in this field and can offer you various support. They are available 24/7 via chat and telephone.

I hope I can help you a little bit with this. Know that you are not alone and that there are various possibilities to be helped!

Greetings
