When your immune system fights against a disease, it costs energy. It is therefore not surprising that almost every disease or condition is associated with you feeling tired. Fatigue is a common symptom that people talk about when you are not feeling well.
A productive society
These days we believe that we must be busy all of the time. But it is not good to always be busy. If your daily schedule has changed or you have not slept enough, or something else is going on in your life, it is normal that you feel tired during the day.
Fatigue expresses in different ways and can be measured in different ways. For example, it may mean that you sleep more than usual. Or, you can’t exercise that long in the gym as usual. Maybe you have no energy at the end of the day? There are many factors that can contribute to the fact that you feel more tired during the day or at the end of the day. With these thoughts in mind, we will talk about other possible reasons for your exhaustion.
No fuel
Your body needs enough fuel to function properly. If you don’t eat enough or you don’t get enough nutrients, your body will tell you so. A healthy diet is therefore important. Don’t skip your breakfast, make sure you get enough nutrients, vitamins and minerals and eat healthy snacks during the day to keep your energy up to date.
Inactive thyroid gland
One of the two most common causes of fatigue is an under active thyroid gland. Your thyroid gland is located at the bottom of your neck, and regulates everything from your energy level to your metabolism and your heart rate. Although a lack of energy is perhaps the most obvious symptom of an under active thyroid gland, weight gain, sleeping problems, sore throat, hair loss and constipation are also common symptoms.
Anemia
Anemia is a condition where you have few red blood cells in your blood or your red blood cells do not work properly. The most common cause is iron deficiency. Along with fatigue, a pale face is also a symptom, just like brittle nails, heart palpitations, dizziness, the feeling of fainting, and headaches.
Depression
Fatigue can also be caused by mental exhaustion. Depression is a mood disorder that can express itself in different ways. This disorder is mainly characterised by feeling blue or experiencing a loss of interest and pleasure in everyday life. Other common symptoms are: insomnia, recurrent thoughts of suicide, lack of energy and problems with concentration.
Still tired?
If you want to do something about your fatigue, it is important to know why you are tired. Think about the activities in your daily life, and try to figure out what is consuming so much energy from you. Fatigue can have all kinds of causes, both psychologically and physically. Do you suspect that your fatigue is linked to anemia, depression, an inactive thyroid gland, or heart problems? Then it is wise to consult your doctor.
