More than 70,000 people worldwide have died due to the coronavirus. Every day we read about new developments and we change the regulations to limit the corona virus and its consequences where possible.

What can we learn from our world full of uncertainties? A world where news and new information is spreading at fast speed. A world in which it sometimes feels like being in a roller coaster, rapidly alternating feelings from fear, anger, sadness, powerlessness to hope and confidence.  A world in which we are separated from loved ones and in which we lose people we love.

I notice that I feel more and more connected with others in this crisis. I am also much more aware of how we depend on each other. How our lives influence each other. I think about the way we live together now and how we can live together in the future.

For a long time I have been too busy with myself, compared myself with others a lot and invested too little in what is important to us. The crisis offers me the opportunity to connect with others in a different way: from YOU and I to US.

From you and I to us

In the first phase of our human life we are completely dependent on our parents or caregivers. If we are abandoned it will result in death. Later in life we often get the feeling that we can handle everything alone and we don’t need the other person. We think we are independent. The crisis makes it clear: we need more than only YOU and ME. Our lives depend on what WE can do together.

Do you recognize that feeling?
