Enjoying is healthy! It contributes to your life happiness and satisfaction. So enjoy as much as you can! But what is enjoying exactly? Enjoying is a broad term. You can enjoy a holiday, a weekend away, a night out, a hug from someone you love, a specific moment, certain company, a nice view, a happy memory, lovely smells, colours, emotions and so forth. In short, you can enjoy everything no matter how small or big it is. Enjoying the little moments can be challenging sometimes. Sound familiar? Below you can read how you can enjoy the little moments some more.
Enjoy!
Enjoying the little things or the things in your daily life can be a challenge. The everyday things can just pass you by when you do not pay attention to it. When you use your senses, there is a smaller chance that these things pass by without noticing, because you are using your sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. When you notice those things, you are in the moment, just like in mindfulness.
Use your senses
You can use your senses at any moment. What helps the best is naming what you see, feel, hear, smell or taste. Below are some examples to help you in using your senses during some everyday activities:
- Walking. Take a walk during your lunch break, after dinner or in the weekend. During walking, try to focus on your senses. Smell the fresh air, hear the wind through the trees, look at the colours around you and name what you see. Feel the sun or the wind on your skin. Enjoy everything around you.
- Your commute to work. When you drive or bike to work in the morning, you might be in a hurry. Are you listening to music? Or are your thoughts already focussed on work? During this trip, try to not do all these things, but let your senses do the work. Smell the air, hear the sounds, observe the colors, feel the sun or wind on your face. In this way you experience your commute more consciously and you might even enjoy it! 🙂
- Eating. With mindful eating you are truly noticing what you eat and giving your senses what they deserve by giving time and energy to taste a meal. You are adding something to a meal: attention. You can start really enjoying food if you are present with your attention. Attention makes your food more fun, surprising and special. You can read more about this here.
