Hi, how unfortunate to read that you suffer from winter depression and notice that it gets worse every year. You would like a solution for this. The lack of light plays a vital role in the development of winter depression/ winter dip. During the autumn and winter the nights are longer and the days are shorter, this can cause lethargy, loss of concentration and depression symptoms. In order to compensate for the lack of light, you can do a few things yourself. For instance, you could buy a so-called daylight lamp, which effectively mimics daylight and will make you feel more energetic. For example, you can put it on your desk while working or studying, and see what effect it has on your mood and concentration level. In addition, this lamp is incredibly nice in the mornings and you will get up with a much more pleasant feeling.

I also recommend spending time outdoors. Try to go outside as early as possible, because the light in the morning contains a lot of blue light. Blue light slows down the production of melatonin and so the blue light makes you feel more cheerful. You can start your day in a fresh way instead of sleepy and drowsy.

Aside from the fact that you can do a number of things yourself, I want to inform you that you don’t have to do it alone. You mentioned that you notice that your symptoms increase every year. From the moment that you experience these symptoms, chances are that they will increase. Therefore, do not hesitate to contact your GP and ask for help. You could if necessary apply to Sol Psychotherapie at https://sol-psychotherapie.nl/, but the choice is yours of course. I hope I have helped you with the information above and if there are any questions, please let me know.
