Hey,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing such difficulties with sleep. I'll try to provide you with some advice.

  • Firstly, it's important to understand what sleep is and what to pay attention to. Take a look at the following information here.
  • In most cases, sleep problems are related to excessive stress or the inability to relax enough to fall asleep. This can have various causes, such as work stress, personal issues, or sometimes the fear of not being able to sleep itself can prolong the problem. It's difficult to pinpoint one specific cause, so it's good that you've already written down what's been going on!
  • When tackling sleep problems, it's a matter of trying different things and sticking with them for a while. Since sleep is a biological routine process, trying something once may produce little to no results. A good routine often takes about two weeks to establish. Therefore, I would recommend maintaining consistent sleep and wake times for the next period. This applies even if you don't fall asleep or wake up earlier.
  • If you don't fall asleep within 30 minutes, get up for 5-10 minutes until you start feeling tired again. Then try again and repeat this process until you succeed. It may need to be repeated several times, but it's important to teach your body that you fall asleep when you're tired.
  • Even if you haven't slept, get up at the same time. This is very challenging and exhausting, but it's necessary to familiarize your body with the routine. Over time, your body will adjust to the scheduled times, making it easier to fall asleep.

If sleep problems persist, worsen or if other symptoms arise, I strongly advise you to reach out to your doctor and ask for psychological assistance. It's possible that the sleep problems are rooted deeper and require additional help.

Take care,

Wouter
